  18. YOUR-PLAN (r2.1) is an easy-to-use software package for 
  19. preparing a personal/household budget and cashflow projections
  20. for six months ahead. It enables you to project your income 
  21. and expenditure and to forecast monthly cashflows and end-month 
  22. bank and credit card balances. Use YOUR-PLAN to plan ahead
  23. and save money !!!!!!!!
  24.  
  25. YOUR-PLAN is a fully operational and useful package and not 
  26. 'disabled' in any way. We have offered it as shareware to 
  27. encourage users to register and to purchase our other financial
  28. planning software products for preparing financial projections
  29. for the home and businesses. 
  30.  
  31. YOUR-PLAN is NOT free software. It has been supplied on a "try-
  32. before-you-buy" basis. If you continue to use YOUR-PLAN after
  33. a 30-day trial period, you must register with the author,
  34. Invest-Tech. 
  35.  
  36. In return for registering, you will be licensed to use YOUR-PLAN
  37. on a single computer indefinitely and you will automatically
  38. receive (at no extra cost) a copy of the latest release of 
  39. PERS-PLAN, a more powerful and comprehensive personal financial 
  40. planner with its spiral-bound 90-page manual incorporating 
  41. tutorial exercises etc. You also gain access to full support 
  42. etc. for both products.

  45. our World Wide Web (WWW) site on the Internet using a credit 
  46. card and its special built-in forms. See bottom of file for 
  47. details of its location.  Our Web site, called PlanWare, 
  48. contains downloadable versions of *ALL* our financial planners 
  49. for businesses and the home. It also offers useful advice in 
  50. the form of text files on such topics as business planning, 
  51. cashflow forecasting etc. as well as lots of other interesting 
  52. stuff.

  55. copied in its entirety and without modification for FREE
  56. distribution to friends and, subject to the conditions set out

  90. Before starting to use YOUR-PLAN, we recommend that you review
  91. this entire file either on-screen or, preferably, after printing
  92. it. It includes brief instructions for loading YOUR-PLAN which
  93. should enable you to start using the package. 
  94.  
  95. Another supplied text file (MANUAL.TXT), explains, in much more 
  96. detail, how to load and use YOUR-PLAN. Because YOUR-PLAN is
  97. very intuitive and contains very extensive 'on-line' help, you
  98. may only need to refer to this file on an occasional basis.
  99. However, you may wish to print it at this stage in order to
  100. have it readily accessible for future reference, or if you get
  101. "stuck",  or need detailed guidance on a specific issue.

  103. We have also included with YOUR-PLAN a text file (MONEY.TXT)
  104. which contains dozens of famous (and not so well-known)
  105. quotations on the subject of "money". If you feel depressed
  106. about your personal finances after using YOUR-PLAN, you should
  107. have a look at MONEY.TXT. It MIGHT cheer you up !! We welcome
  108. further quotations for inclusion in the next release of 
  109. YOUR-PLAN. More seriously, have a look at Section 6.5 within
  110. the manual text file (MANUAL.TXT) for some basic ideas on
  111. utilising the output from YOUR-PLAN to improve your financial
  112. planning and/or position.

  121.           B - GENERAL INTRODUCTION
  122.           ========================
  123.  
  124. YOUR-PLAN is an easy-to-use software package for preparing a
  125. personal budget and cashflow projections for six months ahead.
  126. It can be used to improve the management of your finances by
  127. forecasting your income and expenditure. The resulting budget
  128. can then be used to improve your financial planning & control
  129. and, ultimately, to save yourself money. 
  130.  
  131. For a more detailed and formal description of YOUR-PLAN, you 
  132. should refer to the text file called VENDINFO.DIZ.
  133.  
  134. Based on your estimates and assumptions, YOUR-PLAN compiles a
  135. detailed and summary budget for up to a six months ahead. It
  136. also produces reports analysing the budget and detailing all
  137. your underlying assumptions on income and expenditure. 
  138. YOUR-PLAN incorporates facilities for graphing key results;
  139. overwriting assumptions by actuals; undertaking 'what-if' 
  140. analysis; and rolling-forward assumptions and projections one
  141. month at a time.
  142.  
  143. YOUR-PLAN is very suitable for users with limited or no
  144. prior experience of computers as well as for more experienced
  145. computer users who do not wish to go to the very considerable
  146. trouble, or to waste valuable time, developing their own 
  147. planning system on a spreadsheet. Bear in mind that YOUR-PLAN
  148. involved hundreds of hours of development and years of 
  149. "know-how".

  151. To run YOUR-PLAN you need the following system:
  152.  
  153.  * Industry-standard PC with DOS 3.30 or higher and a hard disk,
  154.    or dual 3.5" or 5.25" drives. 
  155.  * Conventional memory of 640k. 
  156.  * VGA, GCA, mono, Hercules or LCD display (or equivalent). 
  157.  
  158. A printer (dot-matrix, ink-jet or laser) is desirable. You can 
  159. run YOUR-PLAN as a DOS program within Windows (use the supplied
  160. icon called YOURPLAN.ICO).
  161.  
  162. YOUR-PLAN complements the very many personal financial packages
  163. currently available in the market. Most of these are basically
  164. household accounts systems with only very limited budgeting
  165. facilities. To our best knowledge, very few of them have any
  166. dynamic planning capabilities, similar to YOUR-PLAN's. To 
  167. produce any form of projections with most of these systems, 
  168. you must first keep historic accounts. For many people, this is 
  169. a pain in the ......  Most of us are much more interested in 
  170. projecting our income/expenditure and making ends meet in the 
  171. FUTURE, rather than in learning about the past ("water under 
  172. the bridge", "closing the stable door after the horse has 
  173. bolted" and that sort of thing).

  175. Historic data is NOT required to use YOUR-PLAN. However, if you 
  176. do happen to keep household accounts (either manual or 
  177. computer-based), past data on income and expenditure patterns 
  178. etc. should help you make more accurate projections for the 
  179. future.

  181. Features
  182. --------
  183. YOUR-PLAN's features include the following:

  185. * Seven categories of income (salary for one wage earner,
  186.   reimbursed work expenses, dividends, rent etc.).
  187.  
  188. * Facilities for handling salary deductions based on absolute
  189.   amounts and simple percentages as well as different
  190.   percentages related to bands and thresholds (as for PAYE 
  191.   income tax) specified by the user. YOUR-PLAN is not
  192.   restricted to any particular tax system or currency. Basic             
  193.   information on current tax bands and rates for the UK and 
  194.   Ireland is contained in a supplied file (TAX.TXT).

  196. * Sixteen main expenditure groups (household, car,
  197.   accommodation etc.) incorporating twenty-eight subgroups
  198.   which can be defined by a user. 
  199.  
  200. * Facilities for planning credit card expenditure and payments
  201.   and for calculating interest on any outstanding balances.
  202.  
  203. * Current and deposit accounts with facilities for calculating
  204.   interest on the basis of specified interest rates, handling
  205.   accrued interest and specifying interest payment dates.

  208. ----
  209. YOUR-PLAN is entirely menu-driven and incorporates very
  210. comprehensive context-sensitive help facilities. These 
  211. include extensive menu prompts, error trapping, on-line Help 
  212. Pages, pop-up Hint & Guidance Windows, annotated variable 
  213. descriptions and "drill-down" values. A very comprehensive 
  214. manual is supplied as an accompanying text file (MANUAL.TXT).

  226. ------------
  227. The idea behind shareware is to allow a user to evaluate a 
  228. software package at minimal cost - "try-before-you-buy". 
  229.  
  230. YOUR-PLAN is NOT FREE software. If you decide that you would
  231. like to retain and continue to use YOUR-PLAN after a 30-day
  232. trial period, you must register with Invest-Tech, the author
  233. and copyright holder. See VENDINFO.DIZ for further details.
  234.  
  235. In return for registering, a user is licensed to continue
  236. using YOUR-PLAN on one computer without any time limit.
  237. In addition, a user automatically receives (at no extra cost)
  238. a fully-operational copy of a much more powerful and comprehensive 
  239. version of YOUR-PLAN, called PERS-PLAN, with its 90-page 
  240. spiral-bound printed manual (incorporating tutorial exercises
  241. etc.). You also gain access to full support for both products.

  244. YOUR-PLAN itself. (Practically all registrants immediately switch 
  245. over from YOUR-PLAN to PERS-PLAN as soon as they receive the 
  246. latter).

  251. YOUR-PLAN contains a built-in Registration Form. Alternatively
  252. you can use the Registration Form contained in the REGISTER.TXT

  256. ---------
  257. PERS-PLAN, the version of YOUR-PLAN which is automatically 
  258. supplied (at no extra cost) to all users on registering, includes 
  259. many additional features and facilities:

  261.   *  Covers a 12-month period with separate full-year reports
  262.   *  Handles incomes, salary deductions etc. for one or two 
  263.      wage-earners
  264.   *  Special graph printing utility
  265.   *  Much more extensive range of expenditure assumptions
  266.   *  More function keys to facilitate data entry etc.
  267.   *  Different printer set-ups can be used for monthly and
  268.      full-year reports.

  292. CASH-PLAN: 4-week + 11-month cashflow planner for small/medium
  293.        sized businesses, subsidiaries of large companies
  294.        and corporate cash planning. Runs 'stand-alone' and
  295.        with similar general structure to PERS-PLAN. More
  296.        powerful version of BANK-PLAN with additional
  297.        features and facilities. Price: 95 pounds (sterling 
  298.        or Irish) excluding VAT (US$150).

  300. EASI-PLAN: A range of comprehensive and fully-integrated financial 
  301.        planners (P&Ls, cashflows, balance sheets, ratios etc.)      
  302.        covering 12-months plus 8 quarters. To our best                 
  303.        knowledge, no other package even remotely offers the 
  304.        same range of features or facilities for business and 
  305.        financial planning. Runs 'stand-alone' with similar 
  306.        general structure to PERS-PLAN. 
  307.        
  308.        A "MICRO" version for new and very small businesses (with 
  309.        annual sales of up to 250,000 pounds). Price: 45 
  310.        pounds (sterling or Irish) excluding VAT (US$70). 
  311.        
  312.        A "LITE" version for new and small businesses (with 
  313.        annual sales of up to 2 million pounds). Price: 75 
  314.        pounds (sterling or Irish) excluding VAT (US$120).

  316.        A "PRO" version for larger businesses and/or professional

  326.        Versions are available to run on Lotus 1-2-3 (any
  327.        release for DOS or Windows). 
  328.        Extensive menus with numerous features and facilities. 
  329.        Easily expanded by user. Price: 95 pounds (sterling or 
  330.        Irish) excluding VAT (US$150).

  333. available for each of the foregoing products.

  337.            C - HOW TO RUN YOUR-PLAN 
  338.            ========================
  339.  
  340. Refer to Section 3 of the MANUAL.TXT text file for more detailed 
  341. instructions if you run into any problems.
  342.  
  343. The following guidelines assume that you have already installed
  344. (i.e. copied, unzipped, unarchived, uncompressed etc.) the complete 
  345. set of YOUR-PLAN files onto a hard disk.
  346.  
  347.      a) Get into the sub-directory where you have installed
  348.     all YOUR-PLAN's files. For example, if the sub-directory
  349.     YOUR was used, type "CD YOUR" and press RETURN at the 
  350.     DOS prompt.
  351.  
  352.      b) Type "GO" to access an introductory menu system. If your
  353.     PC uses a very old type of display, do not select this
  354.     option choose c) or d) instead.
  355.       
  356.      or
  357.      c) For guidance on the syntax for loading YOUR-PLAN etc.
  358.     type "YP".
  359.  
  360.      or
  361.      d) Type "YP MASTER" to directly load YOUR-PLAN with specimen
  362.     assumptions contained in a file called MASTER.ASS.
  363.  
  364. To access any of YOUR-PLAN's text files, you can use the EDIT utility 
  365. supplied with DOS or the NOTEPAD accessory supplied with Windows.
  366.              
  367.  
  368. Running YOUR-PLAN through Windows      
  369. ---------------------------------                     
  370. To set up YOUR-PLAN to run within Windows, install it using the DOS 
  371. commands etc. before you load Windows. 
  372.  
  373. Next, run the Windows Program Manager and proceed as follows:
  374.   
  375.   1. Select the Applications Group which you want to contain YOUR-PLAN.
  376.   2. Select File and New options from the Program Manager's menu. 
  377.   3. When the New Program Object box appears, select Program Item
  378.      and OK.
  379.   4. When the Program Item Properties box appears, proceed as
  380.      follows:
  381.  
  382.      - Type "YOUR-PLAN" as the Description.
  383.      - Type "C:\YOUR\YP X" as the Command Line. Make sure you enter
  384.        a single space between YP and X. This command assumes that 
  385.        YOUR-PLAN has been installed to the YOUR sub-directory on 
  386.        a hard disk called C.
  387.      - Enter "C:\YOUR" as the Working Directory. 
  388.      - Select Change Icon and select OK when the Change Icon message
  389.        box appears. 
  390.      - When the next Change Icon box appears, enter 
  391.        "C:\YOUR\YOURPLAN.ICO" as the File Name and select OK. 
  392.      - Once you return to the Program Item Properties box select 
  393.        OK twice to complete installation.
  394.  
  395. To run YOUR-PLAN within Windows, double-click on its icon and wait 
  396. while it loads. Press RETURN to ignore the 'File does not exist' 
  397. message and then use the cursor keys and RETURN to select the desired 
  398. *.ASS file in response to the instruction 'Enter Data File Name" which 
  399. appears at the top of the screen. If more than five such data files 
  400. exist, press the F3 Function Key to display them in a larger window.
  401.  
  402. If using Windows, you can view any of YOUR-PLAN's text files using 
  403. the Notepad accessory.
  404.  
  405.  
  406. ***** WATCH OUT ****
  407. If you try to display graphs when running YOUR-PLAN in a DOS Window 
  408. (i.e. less than full screen) when running in Enhanced Mode, the graphs 
  409. may not show and the display may lock. To unlock it, return to a full 
  410. DOS screen by pressing ALT+RETURN. Always use a DOS full screen when 
  411. displaying graphs.

  413. Using a LCD display         
  414. -------------------
  415. If you are running YOUR-PLAN on a portable PC with a LCD display, you
  416. will probably need to change YOUR-PLAN's video setting once it has 
  417. loaded in order to clearly distinguish the rectangular cursor which 
  418. appears when you are viewing reports on the screen. To do this, 
  419. press I (for Initialise) at the Main Menu, V (for Video) and L 
  420. (for LCD/B&W). The Manual explains how to make these changes permanent.

  427. "Shareware" is a method of software distribution designed to
  428. give users a chance to test a package before purchase at a very
  429. competitive price. Copyright rules apply to shareware and the
  430. authors retain all the rights except as indicated in their licence
  431. agreements. As you will see from YOUR-PLAN, shareware does not 
  432. signify cheap (in the nasty sense) or poor quality software.
